The Universal Laws of Kübler-Ross

Thirteen things Elisabeth Kübler-Ross said so often that her workshop leaders could finish her sentences.

She never published them. She said them — to the dying, to the grieving, and to the people in her Life, Death and Transition workshops — until they became what she called her universal laws. Dr. Larry Lincoln, who led those workshops for her for twelve years and whom she considered her finest workshop leader, recorded everything he remembered. This course is built from that recording, his slides, and Elisabeth's own writing.

The thirteen laws

  1. Negativity breeds negativity.
  2. There is a "Hitler" and a "Mother Teresa" in each of us.
  3. We are responsible for every thought, every word, and every action.
  4. We always get what we need, and sometimes what we want — but not on our timetable.
  5. All true benefits are mutual.
  6. Our one true gift is free choice.
  7. Don't spoil your children.
  8. If we shield the canyons from the windstorms, we'll never see the beauty of their carvings.
  9. We do not want to come to the end of our lives and say, "I've made a good living but never really lived."
  10. I'm not OK, and you're not OK, and that's OK.
  11. We are only given as much as we can take.
  12. There are no coincidences.
  13. When all is said and done, we are here to teach and learn about unconditional love.
