Participants will describe standards of care of the dying when EKR started her work and what motivated her to work with dying patients.
Participants will describe several barriers EKR encountered in her efforts to change the treatment of the dying and how she was able to face and overcome these barriers.
Participants will be able to describe how the treatment of the dying has evolved over time.
Participants will describe the reasons for the development of the Five Stages.
Participants will be able to describe stages of grief and EKR’s philosophy on how these stages apply to coping with grief and loss.
Participants will describe the role of listening and factors affecting listening in work with the dying.
Participants will be able to describe changes over time in the doctor -patient relationship and how EKR contributed to this.
Participants will describe hope as a reaction to dying and provide an example of such
Participants will describe how family are included in work with dying patients.
Participants will describe interactions between family and patient coping and ways of addressing.
Participants will describe how patient interviews inform work with dying patient and their families.
Participants will describe the role of guilt in coping with dying or the grief of losing a loved one.
Participants will describe some of the ways in which family members present themselves that may be related to grief but not immediately identified as grief.
Participants will identify the special needs of children in coping with the death of a loved one.
Participants will be able to describe the role of EKR on current medical bioethics.
